September 20: Convention Finds at UFDC’s Convention in San Antonio

The September meeting was a journey thru our summertime doll activities as many had not seen each other since June. This summer we enjoyed two club trips, one to the Victorian Perambulator Museum in Jefferson and the other to Clementine’s Tea Room and Grand Junction in North Olmsted.

Two lucky ladies, Jeanne K and Sandy P, attended the July 16-20 2014 UFDC National Convention “Shared Passions” in San Antonio, Texas as delegates. Jeanne gave a report on the UFDC Business Meeting and her San Antonio activities. She said it is very hot outside and very cold indoors, but she was still able to enjoy tours of the famous Alamo and Riverwalk. Convention doll artist events she attended included Kish, Maggie Iacona and Darlene Lane.

At the UFDC Annual Business Meeting she noted $40,000 has been raised through fundraisers. A new Region 12 Director, Vanessa Ghant from Michigan, has been inducted and begun her duties. Also Linda Cantwell has become a member of the Nominating Committee.

The attendees were entertained by a live Mariachi band at the final banquet. The convention souvenir doll was Ana by Dianna Effner, a 13” vinyl doll depicting a little Indian girl.  And available too was an Effner companion doll named Mary Jo, a darling little 13” vinyl cowgirl. Everyone also received a beautiful hard-copy book full of articles and full color doll pictures.

On display at the CDC meeting were dolls received and bought by Jeanne at the convention.
